Principles to live by

King David gave his son Solomon principles to guide him through life (1 Chronicles 28:9, 10). These same ideas are ones that any Christian parent would want to present to a child:
• Get to know God personally
• Learn God’s commands and discover what he wants you to do
• Worship God with wholehearted devotion
• Serve God with a willing mind
• Be faithful.
• Don’t become discouraged

David advised Solomon not to be frightened about the size of his task or assignment because what ever God has assign or has His hands upon will be carried out to the end. God will not forsake Solomon while the task is operative. As believers we can sometimes become overwhelm by fear and pull away from doing what God has assigned to us. Fear can actually immobilize us to the point of death. When we no longer fear God but fear men then we spiritually die. We can easily kill our destiny by allowing fear to stop us from moving forward. David instructed his son very well and encouraged him to “be strong and courageous and do the work, for the Lord God, is with him”. (1 Chronicles 28:20)

The hand of the Lord was upon David to give detail instructions to the people of God and to his son Solomon. God’s spirit is sure and precise. Therefore, David made it plain by documenting what was given to him for record. As David spoke to Solomon about the building of the temple he stated, “I have in writing from the hand of the Lord upon me and he gave me understanding in all the details of the plan.”(1 Chronicles 28:19). This is an awesome and concrete way of informing your children about the principles of God.

In His Word,
